Baltimore Humane Society Marks 87th Birthday with Call to Help End Plight of Homeless Pets!

August 18, 2014-Reisterstown, MD –  On Monday, August 18^th, Baltimore Humane Society (BHS) will celebrate its 87^th birthday. Founded in 1927 by philanthropist Elsie Seeger Barton, Baltimore Humane Society has saved, cared for, and re-homed countless numbers of animals. The no-kill shelter works aggressively to place each animal in a loving, permanent home while striving to end the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals by offering a low cost Veterinary Spay, Neuter & Vaccine Clinic.  It also advances the cause of humane treatment of animals through public education, and ensures a peaceful resting place for beloved pets through its full service public Memorial Park.

To celebrate its birthday, the no-kill shelter is calling on the public to help it put an end to pet homelessness. Here is its birthday wish list:

• Spay and neuter your pets as soon as possible.  Four months old for dogs and three months old for cats is not too young to have a pet fixed so it can no longer reproduce. Low cost spay and neuter services are available to the public at the Baltimore Humane Society by appointment.

• Become a foster pet parent or adopt rather than shop in a retail store for a family pet.  There are thousands of dogs and cats without homes who are ready to make wonderful companions.

• Donate!  Because Baltimore Humane Society receives no funding from any government or national humane societies, it relies solely on donations to keep the private, non-profit’s doors open.
