August 18, 2014-Reisterstown, MD – On Monday, August 18th, Baltimore Humane Society (BHS) will celebrate its 87th birthday. Founded in 1927 by philanthropist Elsie Seeger Barton, Baltimore Humane Society has saved, cared for, and re-homed countless numbers of animals. The no-kill shelter works aggressively to place each animal in a loving, permanent home while striving to end the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals by offering a low cost Veterinary Spay, Neuter & Vaccine Clinic. It also advances the cause of humane treatment of animals through public education, and ensures a peaceful resting place for beloved pets through its full service public Memorial Park.
To celebrate its birthday, the no-kill shelter is calling on the public to help it put an end to pet homelessness. Here is its birthday wish list:
- Spay and neuter your pets as soon as possible. Four months old for dogs and three months old for cats is not too young to have a pet fixed so it can no longer reproduce. Low cost spay and neuter services are available to the public at the Baltimore Humane Society by appointment.
- Become a foster pet parent or adopt rather than shop in a retail store for a family pet. There are thousands of dogs and cats without homes who are ready to make wonderful companions.
- Donate! Because Baltimore Humane Society receives no funding from any government or national humane societies, it relies solely on donations to keep the private, non-profit’s doors open.
- Drop by and donate items on our wish list (http://bmorehumane.org/support/our-wish-list/)
- Make a donation in the name of a beloved pet. (http://bmorehumane.org/donate/)
- Make a donation in honor of a special person. (http://bmorehumane.org/donate/)
- Arrange a humane education presentation for your school or youth group. Or have BHS host your child’s birthday party
Celebrate with us as we look forward to another 87 years of fun and fur!
