You may not know it, but canines also love celebrating Halloween. And one of the best things they like about the holiday is the food (https://pawcastle.com/best-puppy-food/). Now with so many recipes out there, you might have a hard time choosing the most appropriate pooch snacks for the occasion. So to help you out, here are six dog treats to make for your tail-wagger:
Pumpkin Frozen Yogurt Bites
Perfect for hot autumn days, this pumpkin-flavored dog treat is ideal for tail-waggers. All you need to do is mix 1 cup of yogurt, ½ cup of canned pumpkin and ¼ cup of water, pour the mixture into an ice tray, and freeze it. Once the mix is completely frozen, pop them out and serve them to your furry buddy. This recipe will only take 15 minutes to prep up, minus the freezing time.
Peanut Butter Sandwiched Dog Treats
Okay, this recipe will take a little effort to make, but it’s still a dog treat worth making. First, preheat your oven to 350 °F, and line a couple of baking sheets with parchment paper. Then mix 1 ¼ cups of flour, ½ teaspoon of baking powder, ½ cup of peanut butter, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of honey, and ½ cup of milk in a bowl or mixer to form a soft dough. Pat out the dough into a 1-inch deep large rectangle and cut out 1-½-inch circles (Use all the mixture!). Bake the circles for 10 to 12 minutes. Once you’re done, smear peanut butter between two of the cookies and sandwich them together. And there you have it!
Mini Berry-Almond Cake
This is also a challenging yet worth-it canine treat to make for your pooch. Again, preheat your oven to 350 °F. Then grease two ramekin dishes with coconut oil. Combine 1 ¾ cups of almond flour, 2 tablespoons of honey, 3 eggs, 2 to 3 tablespoons of coconut oil until smooth, and fold in a handful of chopped strawberries (You can also use blueberries!). Pour the mixture into the ramekin dishes until it’s ¾ full, and bake it for 15 to 20 minutes. For the icing, combine 1 cup of yogurt and 2 to 3 tablespoons of almond butter or peanut butter. Once the cake is baked, spread the frosting onto the tops of each stack and layer. Garnish the cake with the berries of your choice― and enjoy!
Banana Blueberry Ice Cubes
But in case you want another recipe that’s easy to make then try this. Mash up a few bananas in a bowl before pouring the puree into an ice tray cube until it’s ¾ full. Then sprinkle the tray’s top with chopped wild blueberries before putting it in the freezer. Once frozen, you can pop out the ice cubes for your pooch to enjoy. Discounting the freezing time, this canine snack will also only take around 10 to 15 minutes to make.
Strawberry Shortcake Dog Biscuits
Start by preheating your oven to 375 °F, and mixing 2 cups of diced strawberries, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar in a bowl. Then combine 2 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, ½ teaspoons of salt, ½ cup of granulated sugar, and 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a separate bowl until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add in ⅔ cups of cream until the dough comes together, and stir in the strawberry mixture. Drop cookie dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet using an ice cream scoop before baking it for 20 to 25 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the cookies onto a wire rack; they will harden as they cool.
Apple Crunch Pupcakes
Last but not least, try making this cupcake for your dog. Once more, preheat your oven to 350 °F. Whisk together 2 cups of water, ¼ cups of applesauce, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 egg, and 4 tablespoons of honey in a bowl, and stir into these ingredients a mixture of 4 cups of flour and 1 tablespoon of baking powder. Then fold in a cup of chopped apples. Spoon the concoction into greased muffin tins and bake for 35 minutes. Serve it to your dog once it’s ready.
Halloween is Coming
So there you go! With these dog treats, you can rest assured that your canine buddy will have a very enjoyable Halloween. And with October 31 fast approaching, you need to step up your cooking game big time and start getting what you need to make these pooch dishes.
