When you own a dog, there are some limitations to what you can do. Although dogs bring a lot of joy to your life, not being able to do some things can be frustrating. However, there’s still plenty that you can do when it comes to dog-friendly activities and enjoying the day out as a family, because let’s be honest, dogs are part of the gang!
With that being said, here are five dog-friendly activities to try for a fun day out with your pup this year.
Take your dog to work
For those days when you have to go into the office, it’s worth checking what your office policy is for bringing dogs into the workplace. Some offices are a no-go for dogs, while others will welcome to odd dog here and there when it might be difficult to leave the dog at home.
It can also be a great way of getting your dog out of the house instead of leaving them in all day, which can be boring. Not only that, but not all dogs can last several hours and may need a potty break or a walk in between. By having them with you at work, you can do all that, provided it works around your schedule for the day, of course.
Go to a dog-friendly restaurant
A dog-friendly restaurant is definitely something that you should look at when it comes to going out with the family.
If you’re fancying a little treat for yourself and for your pooch, then you could always take yourself to a nearby food establishment that caters to your dog. Whether that’s serving up a dog menu, which some do, to simply allowing your dog to be in the area where food is served.
Again, this is dependent on the establishment, but it’s worth seeking out all the dog-friendly restaurant options in your area for future planning.
Take your dog to some agility lessons
Agility lessons are something that can be incredibly good for your dog and a great way of getting some of their energy depleted wherever possible.
With agility lessons, it’s good to start them from a young age so that they learn to be disciplined. However, there’s a saying that you can’t train an old dog new tricks; however, that’s not always the case.
Even those who struggle with discipline can acquire great results when it comes to agility lessons.
Go on a bike ride together
Another great one for exercise, but a fantastic way to explore the local surroundings is to go on a bike ride together. If you’re a lover of the outdoors and enjoy biking, why not take your dog with you?
You might not be able to go at full pelt, but a dog has a surprisingly high level of energy, so going out for a bike ride might be a good way to expel some of that energy, so they’re more tired by the end of the day.
Go swimming in your local lake
If you’re a fan of swimming, then going to your local lake for a swim with your dog can be a lot of fun. Dogs are great swimmers and have a natural talent for picking it up almost straight away. Start off in the shallow end of the lake before going out further when necessary.
These dog-friendly activities will ensure your dog gets involved in all the family fun you have now and in the future.
