Flying away on holidays are a great chance for you to get away with family and friends and relax in a different culture. Wherever you choose to jet off to, you’ll need to plan ahead what to do with your pet while you’re on vacation. Below we’ve listed out our top tips so that you have the peace of mind your pets are being cared for, while you’re away abroad.
Hire a Pet Sitter
From dogs and cats to rabbits and hamsters, pet sitters are readily available to look after your beloved pet while you’re on vacation. Most pet sitters have pets of their own or have owned them previously and relish the opportunity to look after your pets while you’re away. Often, you’ll leave your pet at the pet sitter’s home and you can visit beforehand to make sure you feel comfortable leaving your pet with the person at their property. You might already know friends with pets or those without who would love a pet but can’t commit to having one full time who can look after your pet while you’re away.
Other pet sitters can visit your house, providing food and water for your pet and, if needed, take them out for exercise too. Whether you visit the pet sitter at their home, or you arrange for them to meet your pet at your home, you must be sure that they have met your pet before you go away on vacation.
Taking Your Pet with You
Of course, you also have the option to take your pet on vacation with you, but consider how the change in climate, scenery and routine could impact your pet. If you’re driving abroad and travelling for a longer period, this is a far more realistic option. If you’re flying to your vacation destination, there are many more rules and regulations about taking your pet abroad with you, which could affect your ability to do so. You need to ensure you are aware of all regulations for both the airport you’re flying from and the one you’re flying into and all regulations regarding bringing pets into your destination country. Often pets have to go through a quarantine period, which if you’re not travelling for a long time, could mean it isn’t worth you taking your pet as they’ll spend their vacation there!
Kennels
Another great option when considering what to do with your pet while you’re on vacation is booking them into kennels for the duration of your trip. A few things to bear in mind when searching for kennels is to look early and book your pet in, in plenty of time as they do get booked up, especially during busy vacation periods. Secondly, be sure to shop around, as finding vacation accommodation for your pet can be costly – so make sure you find a balance between cost and care to ensure your pet is looked after as well as possible, without spending all your vacation budget!
After you’ve made plans to keep your pet happy and safe while you’re away, if you’re flying out of Manchester airport, be sure to plan ahead for parking at Manchester airport.
