WAKE FOREST, NORTH CAROLINA – April 4, 2018 – TripsWithPets.com recently conducted a survey to find out what’s important to pet parents when planning a vacation with their pooch…and the results are in!
When selecting a dog friendly place to stay, 36% of pet parents hone in on pet fees, while 42% consider the restrictions in pet policies. Over restrictive pet policies and high pet fees translate into “pet un-friendly” to parents.
Further, over 76% of pet parents said with all else being equal, they’d book a stay at an accommodation that offered special pet amenities (e.g. pet welcome baskets, pet beds, dog potty areas, etc…) citing that pet amenities equate to pet welcoming.
Nearby pet friendly things to do is also key when selecting pet friendly accommodations. From pooch friendly breweries and beaches to pet friendly attractions and hiking trails, 48% of respondents indicated that they look for local activities they can enjoy with their pet when selecting a place to stay.
When it comes to return visits, a whopping 76% of pet parents said they’d be more apt to book a return visit to an accommodation that went the extra mile for their pet — even at times that they were not traveling with their pet!
Mountain destinations came in as the #1 preferred pet friendly getaway, with beach destinations coming in a close 2nd. A common thread among those surveyed was they were looking for an escape from the everyday hustle and bustle of real life, with their pet by their side. Fifty-seven percent of parents like to stay an average of 5-7 nights when vacationing with their pet, while 23% prefer 2-3 night long weekend getaways.
The type of accommodations preferred when planning a pet friendly vacation was no surprise. Vacation rentals (including cabins & cottages) took the top spot with 41%, boutique hotels were a distant 2nd with 20%, and a close 3rd was bed & breakfasts.
