Washington, D.C.’s City Council is considering a bill that will threaten cats and undermine the Trap‑Neuter‑Return (TNR) program in the District. I need your immediate support to stop it from becoming law! The District is not only the birth place of Alley Cat Allies, but also the movement for humane treatment of cats. This bill amounts to a cruel policy that will roll back the lifesaving programs we initiated and cost the lives of thousands of community cats—while doing nothing to help wildlife.
We need you—no matter where you live—to help us defeat this bill, it will mean cruelty and death for thousands of cats in Washington, D.C. and thousands more across the country.
Cities and states look to our nation’s capital as an example. Thanks to Alley Cat Allies and you, Washington, D.C. has long been a national leader of effective, humane animal policies, like lifesaving TNR. But this new plan changes all that. It aims to place all community cats in shelters, where they likely will be killed because they are deemed unadoptable. This catching and killing of cats is not only cruel—it’s ineffective, wastes taxpayers’ dollars, and will not save wildlife!
This bill is simply the sanctioned killing of cats based on junk science: Studies have shown that the overwhelming causes of wildlife and bird death are habitat loss, urbanization, pollution, and environmental degradation—NOT cats.
Innocent cats are going to die because of misinformation, unless we stop this ill-advised bill from being passed by the D.C. City Council. Can we count on your immediate support to stop this cruel plan before it is pushed into policy?
Thanks in advance for your quick response. I can’t imagine what we’d do—and what would happen to thousands of innocent cats—if we didn’t have your support behind us.
For the cats,
Becky Robinson

P.S. Cities and states look to our nation’s capital as an example. If Washington, D.C. fails to protect cats and abandons decades of lifesaving TNR that we worked so hard for, it will mean cruelty and death for thousands of cats in Washington, D.C. and thousands more across the country. Please donate now to help us fight back! Thank you.
