April 18, 2015-Baltimore, MD — Six to eight million homeless cats and dogs enter animal shelters every year. About half of these animals are adopted, but tragically, 2.7 million adoptable pets are put down. The majority of animals euthanized are healthy, sweet pets who would have made great companions. It doesn’t have to be this way. By simply spaying and neutering our pets this tragic situation can be remedied.
In the meantime, however, as long as there are un-neutered animals, spring will also signal the beginning of kitten season. Baltimore Humane Society expects to get lots and lots of newborn kittens and that means a whole lot of extra care will be needed. Typically, kittens need round the clock bottle feeding and a watchful eye. So the no-kill shelter is asking for interested people to sign up as foster parents to help care for the newborns. They can contact volunteer@bmorehumane.org for more information.
To celebrate the upcoming new arrivals, on April, 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Baltimore Humane Society will be holding a Kitten Shower. The shower is an instructive and fun event that features demonstrations of bottle feeding kittens. There will also be fun “baby” shower games, refreshments, and of course, a registry.
Date: Saturday, April 18th
Where: Baltimore Humane Society Adoption Center, 1601 Nicodemus Rd., Reisterstown
Time: 1p.m. – 4 p.m. (Free to the public)
