MAY 5, 2016, REISTERSTOWN, MD – Join the Honorary Fire Dog of the Day, an adoptable dog, on Thursday, May 5th when Baltimore Humane Society officially announces its new permanent program for our region’s life-savers.
Baltimore’s life-saving First Responders are now able to adopt a pet for free at Baltimore Humane Society’s no-kill shelter. Who better to be given the opportunity to adopt a pet for free than our First Responders? These brave men and women devote their lives to serving, protecting, and rescuing the lives of everyone in our community. Baltimore Humane Society believes it’s only logical that they should be entitled to free pet adoption if they would like to also rescue a homeless pet. The reward of a dog’s or cat’s unconditional love is the very least these selfless and brave individuals deserve.
Any police officers, firefighters, paramedics, or emergency medical technicians are welcome to adopt any of the homeless shelter pets at Baltimore Humane Society for free when they present a valid id. The program for First Responders is permanent and ongoing. All standard adoption procedures still apply.
In appreciation of their sacrifice, families of fallen First Responders are also invited to take advantage of this special program. The value of a loving pet in a time of loss cannot be underestimated. In fact, the official roll-out event is being held on Thursday, May 5th to coincide with Fallen Heroes Day on May 6th.
“This is our way of saying thank you for all that our First Responders do,” says Baltimore Humane Society’s Wendy Goldband, Director of Marketing & Public Relations. “All of us at the shelter would like to express gratitude for the role that these brave individuals play in keeping our community safe.”
Despite the fact that the private, non-profit animal shelter does not receive any government funding, it is still offering this new program to all First Responders, regardless of jurisdiction. The no-kill shelter also offers a free pet adoption program to all active, reserve, and retired military called Pets for Patriots. More details about this program can be found on their website at bmorehumane.org.
A shelter dog will help make the announcement at Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Department Thursday morning, May 5th. Later that day from 11am until 3pm the no-kill shelter will have an information table and a few adoptable dogs at the F.O.P. Lodge #4 at 9304 Harford Rd, Parkville.
