How You Can Help Your Senior Dog Love His Golden Years

Keep Them Active

While older dogs may end up slowing down as they age, it is essential that you do your best to keep them as active as possible. It would help if you tried to take their lead by watching for signs of discomfort or tiredness.

You may find that you have to take your dog on shorter or slower walks as they age. You could also ensure that you continue having regular playtime as a lower impact exercise.

Care For Their Joints

Like humans, dogs can develop joint issues as they get older. There are a few ways that you could tackle this issue and a few preventative measures that could help a younger dog stay mobile for longer.

Supplements are one great way to keep your dog’s joints as healthy as possible. Mussels contain a lot of nutrients that can help to strengthen joints in dogs.  You might consider having a look at the options with yumove.com. YuMOVE is a company that are experts in supplements filled with mussels for dogs that promote healthy joints in animals.

Exercise Their Minds

Dogs need to keep their minds active as they get older, just as humans do. You could consider doing this by investing in some interactive toys or playing games like hide and seek. It could also be a good idea to swap out their toys regularly, so your dog always has something new and exciting to play with.

Make Your Home Accessible

Senior dogs may have more trouble climbing stairs, jumping onto sofas or getting into cars than they used to. It could help to ensure that you make your home as accessible for your older dog as you can. This could include adding ramps or stairs to get to beds and sofas, and carrying your dog upstairs if this is possible.

If your older dog is starting to struggle with their eyesight, you could consider installing padding on any sharp edges that they might encounter. It could also help make sure that you make plenty of noise when moving around so that your dog always knows where you are.

Spend Quality Time Together

One of the best ways you can make sure your dog’s golden years are happy is by making sure that you take plenty of time out of the day to bond with them. What you do doesn’t matter as much as giving your dog your full attention. Whether it’s grooming, playing, doggy massage or a cuddle session together on the sofa, giving your senior dog your undivided attention will help them feel safe, secure and loved.
