September, 2016 – Reisterstown, MD – Families and dog lovers get ready! The ultimate furry fun and games family experience takes place on Saturday September 17th. Baltimore Humane Society’s DogFest Walk & Festival is a dog day extravaganza in its ninth year celebrating the love of dogs and benefiting animals in need of care and refuge at the 365 acre no-kill shelter.
Approximately 5000 people are expected to gather on the grounds of Baltimore Humane Society in Reisterstown to participate in a fundraising walk through a nature preserve, games, contests, demonstrations, and kid activities. What makes this event so unusual, though, is that these activities are not just for the families who attend. They’re also for the dogs!
This is the opportunity for pet lovers to watch Rover knock down 10 pins in a game of bowling and challenge their dog with an agility course! Enjoy the antics of dogs trying to find their owners in a game of Hide ‘n Seek or creating their own Rembrandts while Paw Painting. There will be lots of new games this year for the pets and their owners including a Pup Putt mini golf game and tetherball. There’s even swimming for dogs! Of course, some of these activities are good for both the dogs and the kids. Both, for instance, will love running and trying to catch bubbles in the Bubble Chase.

New this year for the kids – they’ll have a blast challenging themselves in the Brick Bodies Kids Fitness Obstacle Course! Kids will also enjoy the Humane Education section with a Nature Center Animal Program by Marshy Point, a moon bounce, face painting, crafts, and much more! And they’ll feel good when they make enrichment toys to be used by the shelter animals.
Not enough? Visit the many dog rescue groups and unique vendors and watch some fascinating demonstrations. The Department of Public Safety & Corrections Services K-9 Unit CDS Detection Dogs are always a big hit. Attending dogs can also qualify for the AKC Canine Good Citizenship Award or enter in some of the contests that run all day long. Judged by a number of area celebrities, your dog could be the winner of contests including the Best Kiss, Best Costume, Best Trick, and Best Dancer.
This year’s Fundraising Walk will be memorializing Jason Webster, a local man whose death came suddenly in July. Webster, an ardent supporter of Baltimore Humane Society, was a DogFest Walk Ambassador for a number of years. You can register for the walk as an individual or a team at http://dogfest.org.
It all takes place on the grounds of our no-kill shelter on 1601 Nicodemus Road in Reisterstown, rain or shine from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, September 17th. Discounted pre-sale tickets can be purchased ahead of time for $10 and kids under 12 free at http://dogfest.org! Tickets at the door will be $15. Kids 6-12 will be $10.
Kids age 5 and under and dogs always free.
