September, 2017 – Reisterstown, MD – Families and dog lovers get ready! The ultimate furry fun and games family experience takes place on Saturday September 16th. Baltimore Humane Society’s DogFest Walk & Festival is a dog day extravaganza in its ninth year celebrating the love of dogs and benefiting animals in need of care and refuge at the 365 acre no-kill shelter.
Approximately 5000 people are expected to gather on the grounds of Baltimore Humane Society in Reisterstown to participate in a fundraising walk through a nature preserve, games, contests, demonstrations, and kid activities. What makes this event so unusual, though, is that these activities are not just for the families who attend. They’re also for the dogs!
This is the opportunity for pet lovers to watch Rover knock down 10 pins in a game of bowling and challenge their dog with an agility course! Enjoy the antics of dogs trying to find their owners in a game of Hide ‘n Seek or creating their own Rembrandts while Paw Painting. Tons of games for the furry pets and their owners include a Pup Putt mini golf game, tetherball, and Simon Says. There’s even swimming for dogs! Of course, some of these activities are good for both the dogs and the kids. Both, for instance, will love running and trying to catch bubbles in the Bubble Chase.

Not enough? Visit the many dog rescue groups and unique vendors and watch some fascinating demonstrations. The Department of Public Safety & Corrections Services K-9 Unit CDS Detection Dogs are always a big hit sniffing “contraband” on volunteer guests. Attending dogs can also qualify for the AKC Canine Good Citizenship Award or enter in some of the contests that run all day long. Judged by a number of area celebrities, your dog could be the winner of contests including the Best Kiss, Best Costume, Best Trick, and Best Dancer.
And of course, there’s the fundraising walk that goes for a mile through our wildlife sanctuary. People can sign up to fundraise at DogFest.org. They don’t have to walk to be a fundraiser, but they’ll be missing out on a beautiful, serene stroll with friends – both human and furry. You can register for the walk as an individual or a team at http://dogfest.org.
