1st Annual Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Walk on May 17th Honors Local 5 Year Old Who Helped the Homeless Animals

May 17, 2014, Finksburg, MD – On Saturday, May 17th the 1st Annual Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Walk will take place at Sandymount Park in Finksburg.  It is a tribute to little five year old Sarah Orton who passed away suddenly in October 2013 and whose sixth birthday would have been on May 15th.  Sarah loved all animals and lived her short life doing all she could to help and care for them.  For her fifth birthday, Sarah specifically asked that all birthday gifts be given as donations to Baltimore Humane Society, the shelter where her own dog, Scooter, had been adopted before Sarah was even born.

To honor their daughter, the Orton family is introducing the Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Walk that will be held every May around Sarah’s birthday for both humans and their pets.  The first walk will be on May 17th at Sandymount Park in Finksburg from 11a.m. to 1 p.m.  In addition, Sarah’s family set up the Sarah Jayne Orton Memorial Foundation.  All donations go toward the care of the animals at Baltimore Humane Society.  (link:

Sarah’s favorite color was rainbow so the walk’s theme will be a rainbow of hope.  The walk is a mile around the park. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.   The registration fee is $25.  Participants are encouraged to pre-register!

All proceeds from the 1 mile walk benefit the Baltimore Humane Society.
